FNG ( F^%#$@ new guy)

Hello all,
I am somewhat new to the MTB deal and new to the park. I went out this afternoon after parking at Dairy Ashford and headed west on the south side, I made it to eldridge and took the pavement on the north side back. I stayed on the bike, bike stayed in one piece, I didn’t kill anyone else and I had fun. I did my homework on the park and etiquette on the trail but I still have a question or two:

I am clear on passing walkers, runners ( on your left) and such but what about while on the trail? I know about yielding to riders going uphill but that’s about it. I think some riders were “announcing” their ascent up hills and around blind corners. I just wanted to be clear. My biggest fear is a collision with someone.

I want to make sure this MTB thing is for me and I am a cheap SOB, so I have a wallyworld China-made schwinn but so far it is still in one piece. I have kept an eye on craigslist and such and will look into rental if it turns out I dig this MTB thing.

Thanks in advance, and take it easy on the dude laying in the grass, out of breath, with a Wal-Mart special someone in his vicinity in pieces.

Most of the time they will hear you coming and get out of the way ahead of time. Other times, they're listening to their ipod and have no idea your there. Just yell around blind corners and stuff. Pass slow if you have to and let em know how many are in your group behind you.

Id be more worried about off the leash dogs.
I'm keeping myself kinda heavy so i can build my legs.

Never seen a dog wearing an ipod. So I'm less worried about them than I am about the can't-hear-a-damn-thing-no-matter-how-loud-you-yell humans wearing them.

Yo Jason, welcome to the site! There is nothing wrong with a Wally World bike if it gets you into the sport. I must warn you though, it could get very expensive but worth every penny. Craigslist is a great place to find a good deal on a bike. Until then, ride it till the wheels fall off!

Keep us posted and I'll keep an I out for you out there.
